Basics

NOVA BCA was established to serve the finest poolplayers in Northern Virginia. Sanctioning a new poolplaying division through the BCA ensures the highest standard of sportsmanship as well as the most competitive rules of play. In keeping with this spirit, NOVA BCA encourages professional players as well as members from APA and TAP to join.

Play is scheduled for Wednesday evenings. Exceptions will include major holidays and playoffs. Practice is 6-7 and match play is 7 sharp until completed. All necessary information for the session and each night of play is provided in a team packet that we present and collect each week. Play consists of 8 to 16 week sessions. Our initial venue is Fast Eddies (Fairfax Circle). Opening night for team play (league) is January 2010 (TBD). Arlington Champions is right behind that. Additional venues slated for Washington DC, as well as Alexandria, Loudoun and Prince William counties in 2010.

When you become a NOVA BCA member, one of three paths is taken — you join or are placed on a team of five to 10 players, or you only enter tournaments, or both. Five individual matches are played each night during team play. Teams choose five players to compete — each player completes one rack against each of the five opposing players. Rules like self-rack, call shot (no slop!) and open on the break are designed to reward the highest level of play. Players not competing may enter the side tournament. No player may compete in both in one evening.

At stake in team and side tournament play will be points for the team and the individual players. Achievements like shutout wins, safeties and break/runs earn bonuses. At the end of each session, members of the first place team receive medals, cash amount (TBD) and entry in the “Vegas Invite” tourney (where the winning team advances DIRECTLY to the national BCA championship). Along the way, we rank the top 100 Northern Virginia poolplayers with “The Century Club” and crown the #1 player on an annual basis. The champion will receive a nearly 3′ tall silver trophy cup, cash amount TBD, website feature, and publicity.

Green fees for team play are $10 per match. Tournament entry fees are $15 to $25. Annual dues will be handled as follows: sign up during first session 2010 and pay $25 ($15 of which goes to BCA national), recognized with charter status and special privileges (TBD); sign up second session and beyond and pay $40; sign up as a professional and pay $20; sign up as one of 10 captains and play entirely for free for the first session and $25 each successive session. Concessions, merchandise and more will be offered at selected venues at additional price points (TBD).
