The Century Club
“The Century Club” was created to recognize the top 100 Northern Virginia poolplayers. There are two ways to earn points towards your ranking – 1) submit your weekly league match score or 2) submit your best match score from the weekly tournament. Our points system includes elements from several pool organizations, one of which is BCA. The combination of league and tournament play is designed to engage all players in the division each Wednesday evening. At the end of each year, the #1 player will receive an impressive, nearly 3′ tall silver trophy cup to keep/display for the year – until he and she are dethroned. The model for this is the Stanley Cup in professional hockey. More information on “The Century Club” is forthcoming, including press releases and publicity in various media outlets.
Catch a recent chat with BCA President Mark Griffin. The thread that interests us most is the second topic that starts at 2:15 in the clip. Griffin highlights Northern Virginia professional Brandon Shuff (who won the 2009 BCA national 8ball championship) and what it will to take to establish true champions in pool. Pool focuses too much on what can be earned in a tournament today vs. the long-term planning and leadership thinking that leads to sponsorships, careers and a lasting reputation for one’s efforts. “The Century Club” will recognize the top 100 Northern Virginia poolplayers and help the sport of pool to take a small step forward in this regard.
