In addition to the above BCA in-game rules, NOVA BCA tournaments feature the following adjustments: 1) winner always breaks, 2) self-rack, 3) total “called shot” (include caroms and kisses off balls with the intended pocket in call), and 4) “zero tolerance” with regards to sportsmanship and sharking violations (offender will be at least be penalized with ball in hand and could sustain loss of game on first offense, subject to tournament directors’ discretion).
Our singles tournaments — 1) follow league (a.k.a. team play) on select Wednesday nights, beginning at 10:30pm and completing by 1:30am or sooner; 2) start fresh and earlier on a Friday or Sunday night, beginning at 7:00pm and completing by 1:30am or sooner. Double elimination format. Board starts at 8 players and up. Race to 3 in 9Ball on winners’ side. Race to 2 in 8Ball on the losers’ side. In the least, first and second place finishers are awarded cash. The number of additional paid finishers depends upon the number of entrants and the amount of the entry fee.
The NOVA BCA Classic — occurs semi-annually, begins on a Saturday morning and can carry over to a Sunday afternoon or evening (depending upon number of entrants). Double elimination format. Board capped at 64 players. Race to 5 in 8Ball on the winners’ side. Race to 5 in 9Ball on the losers’ side. First and second place cash prizes awarded. Points earned by all participants go towards player ranking in “The Century Club” — our list of Northern Virginia’s top 100 poolplayers. Second chance tournament on Sunday for those eliminated. Format follows weekly singles tournament as detailed above.
